The Australian government is planning to ban social media for children under the age of 16.

This information was reported by CNN on Thursday, November 7.

The report highlights that parents have largely approved this decision, which means there will be no exemptions once the ban is implemented.

Australia’s Communications Minister, Michelle Rowland, stated that social media platforms to be banned for minors may include Instagram and Facebook, owned by Meta, TikTok by ByteDance, X by Elon Musk, and possibly YouTube by Alphabet.

Several other countries worldwide have already pledged to restrict social media use for children by law, but Australia’s approach appears to be one of the strictest.

Previously, France proposed a social media ban for children under 15 last year. However, the country could not enforce the restriction due to lack of parental consent.
